Picnic in the Park

Creative Writing Showcase

The Hatter's Bookshop, 935 Mercer Street , Princeton, WV

Listen or share your creative writing in the theme of wildflowers in the relaxed & inspiring venue of The Hatter's Bookshop. Leading into Peak of the Bloom, the bookshop will host a series of workshops to prepare writings. Learn from Ed Davis on Saturday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m., Rob Merritt on Saturday, June 1 at 2:30 p.m. and Monday, June 17 at 6:00 p.m. and Neva Bryan on Saturday, July 13 at 3:00 p.m. Seating is limited to eight and the cost is $15 per person for the workshops. Learn from these great teachers and prepare a piece to share at the showcase August 24th!

Woodland Wonders from the Wilds of WV- A Talk with Barry Glick

As part of the Peak of the Bloom Finale Celebration in the Grassroots District, native plant expert Barry Glick of Sunshine Farm & Gardens will give a talk called "WOODLAND WONDERS FROM THE WILDS OF WEST VIRGINIA"- an enlightening, entertaining and educational look at some of the plants that we overlook on our woodland hikes. Some of the most interesting and unusual wildflowers are growing in our own backyards right under our noses. Join us for a fascinating wild wander into the wonderful world of woodland wildflowers! Wildflower Poetry Night at Appalachian Coffee House

Paint Your Own Sunflower Tray

This workshop will be led by Tiffany Freed in a step by step process to create your own Sunflower tray. The elegant two-handled design makes this tray as functional as it is cute!

-5 PM on August 23rd -A bisque tray (11¾” L x 7¼” W x 2¼” H), paint, glaze, and all other supplies will be provided -Your pieces will be fired in our kiln and ready to pick up in about a week

Wildflower, a Student Concert

Enjoy the talented students of Stages Music School in their spring showcase, as they pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock and the wildflower theme of the Peak of the Bloom celebration.

Wildflower Watercolor Class

Diamonds & Gold Look , 901 Mercer Street , Princeton, WV

Join Promise Sloan for her bold take on flower painting! This class is designed for learning to paint flowers in the watercolor medium. The focus will be upon painting the different shapes, color and individuality of each flower as well as to the use the foliage as a background for the flowers and leaves with transparent layering. All materials are included. No experience necessary. $25 per person.

Beekeeping Demonstration

Blue Ridge Bee Company , 858 Mercer Street , Princeton, WV

The beekeeping experts of Blue Ridge Bee Company will give a workshop and demonstration at their new location in the Mercer Street Grassroots District. BRBC dedicated to assisting the honeybee population, and they manufacturer a vaporizer to assist. Their shop sells all kinds of beekeeping equipment along with farm fresh products and other items.

Wildflower Open Stage Night

The Room Upstairs , 865 Mercer Street , Princeton, WV

Enjoy poetry, creative writing, music and more at Open Stage Night in The Room Upstairs. This special edition will be, of course, wildflower themed. All ages and styles are welcome. This is an all ages event, so please be mindful of your material choices when young people are present. There is a cover charge of $3 for audience and $2 for performers. Coffee, drinks and snacks are on the house.

Guided Photo Hike

Camp Creek State Park , 2390 Co Hwy 19/5, Camp Creek, WV

Award Winning Photographer Steve Jessee of Associated Photography will lead us on a guided photo exclusion through the beautiful and remote fields of wildflowers at Camp Creek State Park. Meet at Associated Photography at 813 Mercer Street at 1 p.m. or at Camp Creek State Park Amphitheater at 1:30 p.m.

Guided Plein Air Painting Experience

Camp Creek State Park

En plein air (French pronunciation: ​[ɑ̃ plɛn ɛːʁ], French for outdoors, or plein air painting) is the act of painting outdoors.

Artist Eric Thomson will lead a plein air painting workshop in the beautiful wildflower fields of Camp Creek State Park. No experience necessary. Cost to attend is $25. Easels, canvases and paint will be provided.

Meet at the amphitheater at Camp Creek at 3:30 p.m. for the ride to the fields.

Peak of the Bloom Live Music Showcase

The Room Upstairs , 865 Mercer Street , Princeton, WV

Local and regional musicians will give a live concert in The Room Upstairs in the Grassroots District of downtown Princeton. All are welcome to enjoy the show. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Complimentary refreshments will be served.
