SONGWRITING CONTEST RULES

  • Solo artists as well as bands may enter. 
  • Preliminary rounds will be judged by a panel of music professionals based on video submissions and lyric sheets.
  • Submissions are due June 15. Semi-finalists will be announced July 1 and their videos will be posted on the Peak of the Bloom website. An online public voting process will represent 25% of the scoring process. Finalists will be announced August 1 and they will compete in a live concert to kick off Peak of the Bloom on Friday, August 16th in The Room Upstairs in the Grassroots District of downtown Princeton, West Virginia.  
  • The song must be the contestant's original work. Songwriters may have another musician perform their original song in the video and live concert. Songs may have multiple co-writers, but please designate one name as the primary contact on your entry. 
  • Songwriters maintain all ownership rights to all submitted songs. By submitting your music to us, you give Peak of the Bloom the right to share, or possibly feature, your creations on the POTB website & social media, and in our promotional campaigns.  
  • There is no age limit for submission.  
  • Contest is open to amateur songwriters and professional songwriters who (on their honor) have earned less than $10,000 during their career from songwriting royalties (this does not include cd sales of their own independent releases OR payments for any type of live performance OR winnings from other contests).  
  • Winners will be chosen by a select panel of judges comprised of accomplished songwriters and music  professionals. Songs will be judged based on melody, composition, lyrics (when applicable), originality, phrasing and appropriateness to the theme.
  • The top prize winner will receive a prize package including $500 and a recording session at Audible Art Studios. Runners-up will receive recording sessions for their songs.  
  • Finalists will have the opportunity to showcase at 2 celebrations during Peak of the Bloom on Saturday, August 17 and Saturday, August 24.                                                                                                                      

  • A $20 submission fee is required for each entry. 

SUBMISSION

To enter, please fill out the form below. You will need to include a video link of you or another musician playing your original song along with lyrics to the song (if applicable). There is a link below the form for the required $20 submission fee. Or, you can fill out the form and pay the fee below and send an mp4 and lyric sheet to peakofthebloomwv@gmail.com, or mail to: Peak of the Bloom / 869 Mercer Street / Princeton, WV 24740.  You may also mail a check in lieu of paying the online fee. Make sure to include your name and phone number on all materials.
